LiveWire review from RoughstockEP Review by Matt Bjorke, RoughstockRecorded in 2011 in Nashville, the album was produced and mixed by Bart Pursley (Big & Rich) and what we have here is an uptempo, honky tonkin ready brand of country music with each of the six tunes on this record coming from the pen of one or more of the band members. Lead vocalist Andy Eutsler showcases a strong, pliable voice capable of running toe-to-toe with some of the best vocalists to come out of Nashville. Tater Fed may sound like a hokey tune but its a genuinely interesting take on the Im from the country theme prevalent in modern country music. Gone is as good as any mainstream hook-filled tune and its more of a band song than Tater Fed. The sweet ballad What Makes You A Man and For The Last Time also stand out. LiveWire Featured in Billboard.com! LiveWire Survived Joplin Tornado, Now They're Helping Rebuild It's been six months since the city of Joplin, Missouri was shattered by a devastating EF-5 tornado. Though rebuilding has begun, there is plenty more that needs to be done. With that in mind, rising country group LiveWire is reaching out to help the effort with the release of "Miracle Of The Human Spirit." According to member Danny Bell, the event is one that affected the members first-hand."Several of our band members live in Joplin and it has always been our home base," he tells Billboard.com. "It made me really proud when so many people were coming from all over the country to help our community after the tornado. As a band, we wanted to help our friends there and music is the way that we can do that."Bell said that he wrote the song in part because of how people pulled together in Joplin during and after the tornado."The night that the tornado struck, I was watching the storm coverage on the news while I was talking on the phone with Cory, our fiddle player," he recalls. "He was in his home basement in Joplin and the tornado was over him. He sounded real scared. Then the line just went dead and I thought the worst. Then I got another phone call from someone who told me that our drummer's wife was missing (she had been in a collapsed building near St. John's Hospital). For a split second, I realized that I could lose my best friends and they could lose their families. Thankfully, they both survived the storm, but hundreds of people were not so lucky. It made me realize how precious life is. I wanted to write something to express the feelings that were in my heart, but there were just so many emotions it took me several weeks to get started. It struck me that the human spirit is always going to rise up to help those in need when times are tough. Then the song just flowed out of me."Adam Hagerman, drummer for LiveWire, also remembers that day. "My wife called me screaming saying that she had been blown out of a building and was buried under debris and didn't know where she was. I ran out the door and went to look for her where she worked near St. John's Hospital in the most-hard hit area of the city. I was driving around in a sheer panic. The wind was blowing like crazy. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There were people walking around like zombies and dead people in cars. There were power lines down, and gas lines were blowing. There was a truck with dead bodies in the back. It looked like a bomb went off. In the meantime, my wife had dug herself out from where she was and I found her walking down a street. She lost her purse and our car had been destroyed - but she was alive. She is a true survivor. I will never forget that day.""Miracle Of The Human Spirit" is available on iTunes and other digital retailers. Miracle Of The Human Spirit was written by LiveWire rhythm guitarist, Danny Bell, who wrote the song as an outpouring of emotion in reaction to the devastating and deadly EF-5 tornado that struck Joplin. The deadliest tornado to hit the U.S. since 1947, its winds were clocked at speeds of over 200 miles per hour which destroyed 8,000 homes and businesses and caused the deaths of 161 people. LiveWire, with several guest choirs singing backup, will perform Miracle Of The Human Spirit at the Community Memorial Service scheduled to be held in Joplin on November 22 at Cunningham Park (26th Street & Maiden Lane). Missouri Governor Jay Nixon will speak, along with city officials in an event that will begin at 4:30 p.m. and conclude with a lighting ceremony. ABOUT MIRACLE OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT: THE SONG:Miracle Of The Human Spirit was written by rhythm guitarist, Danny Bell, of the Joplin, MO-based band, LiveWire. Bell wrote the song as an outpouring of emotion in reaction to the devastating and deadly EF-5 tornado that struck Joplin on May 22, 2011. From the moment it was completed, the song took on a life of its own. With a modest recording budget of only $350, the track began to take shape in a Springfield, MO, studio where LiveWires Adam Hagerman laid down the drum tracks. Bell and the rest of the band, including lead vocalist, Andy Eutsler; lead guitarist Bobby DeGonia, fiddle player Cory Shultz, and bassist Landon Rolfe added their parts in another studio across town. Word of the song spread, and soon it began an amazing and unique journey across the Internet when Producer Justin Woods emailed the basic tracks to Sherman Oaks, CA, where famed film director and musician, Martin Guigui (Dennis Quaid, Faye Dunaway), added strings, piano and organ. As the life-force of the song gained momentum, it weaved its way into top studios across the country as more talented individuals who were willing to help stepped forward to participate in this unique musical journey. Grammy® Award-winning engineer Vance Powell (Martina McBride), a native of Joplin, called with an offer to mix the recording at Sputnick Sound in Nashville. Then, the tracks made a final trip back to the West Coast where the song was mastered in L.A. by Michael Hateley, whose clients have included Kid Rock, Madonna and Eric Clapton. Once it was finished, the members of LiveWire knew that they wanted Miracle Of The Human Spirit to be used for charitable good to help raise awareness to rebuild Joplin. Miracle Of The Human Spirit just as its title states, stands as a testament to the miracles that can be accomplished when groups of individuals work together towards a common goal. THE VIDEO:After the recording of Miracle Of The Human Spirit was completed, LiveWires Nashville manager, Clif Doyal (originally from Southwest MO and a former resident of Joplin), hit on the idea to create a video to help raise the profile of Joplin back into the spotlight and to remind the world of the continuing need there. Way Out West Records partner, R.A. Rick Sellers, stepped forward to fund the video, and within days, Doyal and the band, along with noted Nashville director/editor, Mark Nicolosi (who has worked with Tim McGraw, Lorrie Morgan, Brooks and Dunn and other top artists) were set up in the ruins of the St. Marys Catholic Church in Joplin, located near St. Johns Hospital in one the most-devastated areas of the city. There, LiveWire toiled under 103 degree temperatures for hours while shooting their scenes in the partially-demolished basement of the church. They were joined by special guests, the College Heights Christian Church choir, under the direction of Lynn Conover, to complete the filming. With the help of Joplin city official Patrick Tuttle and local videographer, Sarah Montgomery, additional materials were secured for the video, including film taken by FEMA within hours of the tornado, news coverage of the disaster provided by local ABC affiliate KODE-TV 12, and archival photos from several area photographers. The single for Miracle Of The Human Spirit will be released nationally by Way Out West Records Nashville on the six-month anniversary of the tragedy, Nov. 22, 2011. The song will be available at iTunes. All proceeds from the sale of the single will go to benefit the Joplin Tornado First Response Fund c/o Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri. The video is available at YouTube and supported by a national publicity and video promotion campaign. View it now at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9pJKzZLXRU. About
Edgy, honest and passionate, LiveWires unique sound features lead guitarist Bobby DeGonia, lead vocalist Andy Eutsler, drummer Adam Hagerman, fiddle player Cory Shultz, rhythm guitarist Danny Bell and bassist Landon Rolfe. Their original songs are infused with the kind of lyrical honesty and expert musicianship that can only be forged through years of shared personal experiences and hardships. Blending elements of working mans Country and rootsy Southern Rock, themes of the common man resound in their Ozark Mountain firebrand music. Its about real life: good times, hard times, poverty, love, loss, family, spirituality, death and redemption. LiveWire has been bringing crowds to their feet for over a decade. In its earliest incarnation in the mid-90s, LiveWire was performing weekends at VFWs and local clubs around Southwestern Missouri and Northeastern Oklahoma. Originally a Western swing band, with the addition of each new band members diverse musical experiences, LiveWire expanded their focus to include a vast repertoire of whatever was popular on the radio dial at the time. That commercial appeal made the band a hot commodity. Soon, the lure of the open road called and LiveWire began traveling from coast-to-coast, performing in club venues in almost every state across America. This was both good and bad: good when it was a decent venue that paid well and the crowds were good - and bad when it was a dive. After six years of non-stop touring and two album projects that never quite captured their sound, they were burned out and discouraged with their lack of progress. The band came apart. What could have been tragedy turned into a positive. Time away from each other made each man realize what they had lost. After a brief hiatus, LiveWire reformed with a renewed energy and hard-won musical maturity. Determined to break out of the cover band scene, they focused their attention on developing the sound that would take them to a higher level and grow their fan base. Building on their reputation as a top-shelf live act, they began opening for a Whos Who of Country music and had the opportunity to appear in front of a national television audience as finalists in the 2009 Colgate Country Showdown, where they performed on the hallowed stage of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. LiveWires debut EP, released in 2011, was co-produced in Nashville by engineer/producer, Bart Pursley (Gretchen Wilson/Big & Rich), DeGonia and Justin Woods. It opens with LiveWires debut single, Tater Fed, which is quickly becoming the bands anthem; it is a stirring backwoods rocker that lays out the hard-scrabble reality of growing up in the rural heartland. Gone is an out-the-door and down-the-road leaving song. Heart Burn showcases a tasty twin guitar riff in a cautionary tale about playing it cool in love - and losing. Thats What Makes You A Man is a story of traditions, honor, and love for your family, God and country. Drink About It, is a light-hearted fiddle-driven hook that finds the band making short work of woman trouble. For The Last Time ends the set with a hook-driven melody of love lost that leaves you hungry for whats next from LiveWire. And, whats next for LiveWire includes their recent signing with Way Out West Records in Nashville, a new music video for Tater Fed, and their single release and video for Miracle Of The Human Spirit, which focuses attention on - and benefits - the rebuilding efforts in their hometown of Joplin, Mo. These milestones are helping the group to reach an even wider audience and climb the ladder of success, both as a live band and as recording artists.Like a band of brothers, LiveWire has endured to see their long-held dreams becoming a reality. Even if you werent "Tater Fed" and didnt grow up on a "rural route," LiveWire makes you wish you had. Their music has a welcome familiarity; it feels like its been in your soul all along.
